Agawam Public Schools Attendance Policy/Procedures

Attendance at every session of school is essential for good scholastic standing.  While school is in session, all outside interests should be considered of secondary importance.  Appointments with doctors and dentists should not be made during school hours.  When circumstances are such that absence from school is necessary, the student, upon return, will email the office secretaries with an excuse from a parent or guardian giving a reason for the absence.  Parents or guardians are expected to call the school on the day of the student’s absence and follow up with an email with a reason for the absence.  You may email Mrs. Costello at ccostello@agawamed.org or Mrs. Marino at cmarino@agawamed.org with absence notes.

Only students who attend school the day of an extracurricular activity will be permitted to participate in after school or evening programs.

Students cannot exceed 8 unexcused absences a term. Students are considered truant if they are out of school without parental permission. Students who skip school will have furnished sufficient grounds for suspension.

Students who skip class will be dealt with firmly and appropriately.  Parent notification will be a usual consequence, and persistent failure to follow the assigned schedule will result in suspension.  Since the assigned program is the contract that the student has with the school any violation of that contract is a serious matter.
