Eastern States Exposition announced the results of the contest, which challenged local high school students to redesign Chick-E, The Big E’s agricultural mascot, as part of the fair’s America 250 celebration.
Students from Agawam High School, Pope Francis Preparatory School, Westfield High School, Holyoke High School, and West Springfield High School participated in the competition. Organizers said schools were provided with design guidelines, weatherproofing instructions, and a stipend for supplies before creating their own versions of the mascot.
According to Agawam High School art teacher Amber Waters, the winning design was created by 18 students and serves as a visual tribute to women who have helped shape the community.
“This includes farmers, teachers, artists, coaches, veterans, entrepreneurs, students, innovators and mentors,” Waters said in a statement. “The women of Agawam are always striving to make our community great.”

📚 Book Speed Dating at AHS
10th Grade students from Ms. LaBrunas’ and Ms. Violette’s ELA classes came to the library to meet some new books! Students rotated through different tables and titles, spending a few minutes with each one before choosing the books that caught their interest.
Sometimes you need to meet a few books before you find the right match. 💙💛📖

Agawam High School Color Guard was proud to carry the colors for Morgan's Message at the football game on September 18th.
Morgan's Message is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and equalizing treatment for physical and mental health. Inspired by the legacy of Morgan Rodgers, the organization empowers athletes to speak openly about their struggles and advocate for mental health awareness. AHS students bring awareness through leadership programs designed to spread the message.

REIMAGINED BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT 2026
📅 Date:
September 23, 2026
⏰ Time:
6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
📍 Location:
AHS Gymnasium
Why the Change?
Based on collaborative work with our teachers and direct feedback from our community, we are updating our Back to School Night format. Families shared that they value personal connection over curriculum presentations and prefer a flexible, less formal structure. In response, rather than following a strict period-by-period schedule for two full hours, we will center this evening on building positive two-way communication and strong relationships between home and school.
What Families can Expect:
Flexible & Informal Format:
Drop in anytime between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM to the gymnasium. Stay for a few minutes or the full two hours—whatever fits your schedule!
Meet Your Student's Teachers:
All academic departments will have dedicated tables set up throughout the gymnasium with teacher names visible. Walk through at your own pace to put faces to names, introduce yourself, and meet teachers.
Student-Led Tours:
Our Agawam Chiefs (student leaders) will be present to offer guided tours of the building for anyone who would like a walk-through of our school.
We look forward to welcoming you to the AHS Gymnasium for a fantastic evening of connection and community!
